Old Cattle Underpass

The Newton Hill area is comprised of the Sudbury Valley Trustees Walkup and Robinson Memorial Reservation and Prentiss Forest Homeowners' Land. The 62-acre Walkup and Robinson Memorial Reservation was a bequest to the Sudbury Valley Trustees in 1980 by Lawrence Walkup, a farmer and lifelong resident of the town. The reservation is a memorial to his parents and to the four generations of his family that farmed this land.

The property includes mixed hardwoods and old pasture uplands, an open field, wooded wetland, and a small spring-fed pond. There is a variety of trails for easy walking through the woods.\

Trolley Right of Way

The Boston and Worcester Street Railway, a trolley line, ran through the property until 1931. The line is now a trail on the property. The trolley line continues west from the reservation, but unfortunately the owner has recently closed the section just west of the reservation. Once across the Connector Road, the trolley right of way is a public trail through the Prentiss Forest subdivision.

One lovely feature of the SVT reservation is a field with a number of bluebird houses, which have attracted the intended inhabitants. It is pleasant to sit along the edge of the field and watch the bluebirds flying about. The installation of bluebird houses in many locations in Westborough and neighboring towns is part of an effort to bring bluebirds back to this area.

The SVT property has become a favorite area for workers from the nearby office parks to lunch, walk, or jog. Many of these offices have extended private trails to the SVT reservation.
